South Australia’s History Festival

Coming next in 2020

South Australia’s History Festival is an annual celebration of South Australia’s history.

Through hundreds of events ranging from talks to tours – walks to workshops and exhibitions to special events, this festival is enjoyed every year by well over 100,000 locals and visitors alike.

The 2019 festival begins with the Open Doors Weekend from 27 to 29 April – three days of events focusing on heritage buildings and architectural history.

One of South Australia’s largest community events, the History Festival promotes the State’s wonderful historical collections, places and stories through an amazing range of activities. It began in 2004 as SA History Week and has grown each year, becoming a month-long festival in 2011. It is now known simply as South Australia’s History Festival.

Its popularity and success is due to the hard work and enthusiasm of hundreds of event organisers and thousands of volunteers across the state who are all passionate about sharing our history.
